He was panting,
choking for air, he couldn’t run
“I’m sorry. I’ll give you anything! What do you want?” he cried
“Nothing, just your life, bastard.” I said
The bullet released itself from the gun,
penetrating his heart, his life began to fade.
***
Silence stuck across the aisle.
Death gripped his soul,
thrusting him into an abyss.
Life drifted away another mile.
Heavily, he collapsed on the ground,
losing control.
***
I smiled, as he breathed his last,
Lighting the cigarette from my pocket,
soaking in the tobacco vapors,
as time slipped past.
Leading an isolated life,
being a killer is never easy.
Death is my only friend
Betraying him every time,
made my life dizzy…
***
The noise of wailing sirens grew louder,
It seems the cops are here!
The sound of footsteps approached closer, towards the dark.
One by one they rummaged near the motionless corpse,
sniffing it, the police dogs bark.
***
“He’s dead, Sir”
“Yes.”
“There are more..”
“Hmm..” I replied
Walking past the horde, my eyes glistening with lust.
I crushed the cigarette under my feet.
Another one died, another life gone to dust..
As of Death,
Death will some day cheat.
And when that day befalls,
The bitchy karma, will be there to greet!
***
I languidly strolled ahead,
to discover the terrors behind the wall
There was a slight movement
But before I could react,
the resonance of gunshots filled the hall
ONE, TWO, THREE AND FOUR…
The bullets pierced my body.
I crumbled on to the floor.
***
My vision started to dwindle,
As, I recollected the voice of my father.
“Bless me Dad, I’m leading from the front!” I said
“Go on my brave lad, make your country proud!”
Dad, I guess this is it,
finally, death and I meet..
I lay there silently,
amidst the chaotic flood,
in a crimson pool,
of my own blood.
***
I gradually detached myself,
from this world,
as the other side,
of the dusk unfurled…
***
That's a great poem on what makes a Martyr.
